1 dead, 1 hurt in downtown Columbus robbery gone wrong

COLUMBUS, Ohio โ€” A robbery attempt in downtown Columbus turned fatal on Saturday afternoon, leaving one person dead and another injured, according to the Columbus Division of Police.

The incident took place in a busy commercial district downtown. Authorities report that what was initially believed to be a targeted robbery escalated into a physical altercation. During the struggle, gunshots were fired. First responders arrived at the scene shortly after receiving multiple emergency calls and found two individuals suffering from gunshot wounds.

One victim was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical personnel. The second victim was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition, where doctors are monitoring their recovery. Police have cordoned off the area for several hours to collect forensic evidence and interview witnesses.
