Ormeau Road Shop Owner Hospitalized in Hate Crime Burglary; Two Arrested

A retail owner on Belfast's Ormeau Road has been hospitalized with serious injuries after being violently assaulted during a burglary, which police are now treating as a hate crime.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, when intruders broke into the business premises. The shop owner, who was present at the time, was confronted and severely beaten. Emergency services attended the scene shortly after the alarm was raised, and the victim was transported to hospital for treatment of his injuries.

Following a rapid response, the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) confirmed that two men have been arrested in connection with the break-in and assault. They are currently being held in custody for questioning.

A PSNI spokesperson stated that the incident is being treated as a hate crime, emphasizing that hate-motivated offenses will not be tolerated in the community. Local politicians and community leaders have condemned the attack, expressing their solidarity with the victim and calling for a united stand against such violence.
