East Belfast Shop Worker Left Traumatized After Robbery Involving Wooden Mallet
A shop worker has been left severely shaken following a robbery at a retail premises in East Belfast, during which the perpetrator was armed with a wooden mallet.
The incident occurred on Monday, July 21, 2025. The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) responded to reports of an armed robbery at a local shop. A man entered the premises brandishing a wooden mallet and threatened the staff member on duty, demanding money from the cash register.
The suspect fled the scene with a sum of cash. The employee, while not physically injured during the encounter, was left deeply traumatized by the ordeal. Police have condemned the act, highlighting the severe emotional toll such crimes take on front-line workers.
Detectives are currently reviewing CCTV footage from the shop and surrounding businesses. They have issued an appeal for witnesses, urging anyone who saw a male behaving suspiciously in East Belfast or who has information about the robbery to come forward and contact police on 101 or anonymously via Crimestoppers.
