Bradford City Centre Shop Owner Speaks Out Against Roller Shutter Ban After Brick Raid

A Bradford city centre business owner has voiced deep frustration over local security regulations after his shop front was smashed in a targeted burglary. Nahim Hussain, the owner of One Stop Electronic Repairs on Godwin Street, spoke out after burglars hurled a brick through his shop window to gain access to the premises.

Frustration Over Stolen Property and Shutter Restrictions

The thieves made off with a scooter that was on display in the front window. Following the break-in, Mr. Hussain called on Bradford Council to urgently reconsider its strict planning policy regarding external roller shutters. He argues that the lack of secure shutters leaves city centre businesses highly vulnerable to opportunistic crime.

Council Response to Security Measures

In response to the concerns, Bradford Council defended its policy, stating that solid roller shutters can negatively impact the visual appeal of shopping streets and potentially encourage anti-social behavior when businesses are closed. The council maintains that businesses should invest in internal grilles or laminate security glass as alternative measures, though retailers argue these are often insufficient to deter determined criminals.
