Police Release CCTV After Brutal Aggravated Burglary in Brighton
Violent Assault During Home Invasion
Sussex Police have launched an urgent appeal for information following a violent aggravated burglary in Brighton that left a resident hospitalized. Officers were called to an address on Goodwood Way in the Moulsecoomb area shortly after midnight on May 15. Upon arrival, they discovered that a woman in her 40s had been seriously assaulted inside the property by intruders. The victim sustained severe injuries and continues to receive treatment in the hospital.
CCTV Footage Released in Hunt for Suspects
In an effort to identify the perpetrators, investigating officers have released CCTV and smart doorbell footage from the surrounding area. The footage captures two distinct suspects approaching and later fleeing the scene on foot. Police hope the public might recognize the individuals through their specific movements or clothing. To reassure the understandably concerned community, there has been a notably increased police presence patrolling the Moulsecoomb area.
Police Appeal for Public Assistance
Detective Inspector Jennifer Pietersen emphasized the severity of the incident: โThis was a serious assault that has left a woman requiring hospital treatment... We continue to urge anyone with relevant information to come forward." Police are specifically asking residents on Goodwood Way, Moulsecoomb Way, Birdham Road, and Hodshrove Road to check their private CCTV or doorbell cameras. Anyone with information should contact Sussex Police, quoting reference 121 of 15/05.
Fortifying Your Home Security
Aggravated burglaries involving violence are deeply distressing. Residents can take proactive steps to improve their home security and deter intruders:
- Ensure all external doors are fitted with a secure chain and a wide-angle door viewer, and never open the door to unexpected late-night callers.
- Install highly visible, motion-activated security lighting around the perimeter of your property.
- Invest in a modern, smart doorbell camera that records high-definition video and allows you to speak to visitors remotely without opening the door.
- Consider joining or forming a local Neighbourhood Watch scheme to foster community vigilance and rapid reporting of suspicious activity.
