Man and Woman Charged Following Violent Cash Machine Mugging in Brighton

A man and a woman have been charged by Sussex Police following a violent mugging near a cash machine in central Brighton. The incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, 25 September 2024, at approximately 5:15 am, at the busy junction of St James's Street and Old Steine.

The victim, a 20-year-old man, was assaulted by a group while using a cash point. The attackers stole £30 in cash and two rings from him. The victim was transported to the hospital for assessment and was later discharged with minor injuries. Following a swift police response, Olesia Demian, 26, was arrested near the scene and subsequently charged with robbery and attempted grievous bodily harm (GBH). She was remanded in custody. A second suspect, 55-year-old Kingsley Ekwebelem, was arrested on 30 September and charged with robbery, before being released on bail. A third suspect, a 26-year-old man from Wimbledon, was also arrested on suspicion of robbery and remains on bail pending further investigation.
