CCTV from Corby Chicken Shop Helps Convict Gang Behind Brutal Nottingham Home Invasion
A sophisticated police investigation has culminated in the sentencing of a violent gang responsible for a terrifying home invasion in Nottingham, thanks in large part to CCTV footage captured at a chicken shop in Corby, Northamptonshire.
The incident occurred on February 1, 2023, when a group of masked men forced their way into a residential property in Bulwell, Nottinghamshire. During the course of the drug-related aggravated burglary, a 19-year-old victim was viciously stabbed in the neck, sustaining life-altering injuries that required urgent emergency medical attention.
The Corby Connection
Despite the attackers wearing masks during the home invasion, detectives from Nottinghamshire Police refused to let the case go cold. The pivotal breakthrough came when Detective Constable Chris Bostock reviewed surveillance footage from a fast-food chicken establishment located in Corby, Northamptonshire, approximately 50 miles away from the crime scene.
DC Bostock identified one of the key suspects, 24-year-old Jaekwon Marks, entering the chicken shop. Crucially, the high-definition security camera captured Marks unlocking his mobile phone. By meticulously zooming in on the footage frame-by-frame, forensic investigators were able to clearly read the numerical passcode Marks entered into the device.
Unlocking Critical Evidence
Armed with the passcode, police successfully unlocked Marks's mobile phone, revealing a treasure trove of incriminating evidence. The device contained GPS location data, communication logs, and text messages that linked the suspects together and placed them at the scene of the burglary. Combined with drone footage showing another gang member discarding a burner phone, and cell-site analysis, the prosecution established an ironclad case against the perpetrators.
Justice Served at Court
In April 2024, the gang appeared before Nottingham Crown Court for sentencing. Jaekwon Marks, alongside co-defendants Jawon Thomas, 25, and Andre Saunders-Johnson, 21, were each sentenced to 10 years and nine months in prison after pleading guilty to aggravated burglary and wounding with intent. Other members of the criminal network received varying prison terms for their involvement in coordinating the raid.
Speaking after the trial, police representatives praised the meticulous detective work that turned a routine chicken shop security recording into the key that unlocked the entire conspiracy, ensuring that dangerous offenders were removed from the streets.
