Caught on Camera: Moment Coventry burglar knocks on front door before smashing back entrance to steal jewellery
West Midlands Police are investigating a daring residential burglary in Coventry after security cameras captured the suspect using a common check-in tactic before breaking into a home. The footage reveals the moment the offender walked up to the front property line and knocked loudly on the front door to determine if the residents were present.
Receiving no response, the intruder proceeded to navigate around the side of the house to the rear garden. Within minutes, the burglar shattered the glass panel of the back door, gained entry to the property, and conducted a rapid search of the master bedroom. The homeowner later confirmed that several irreplaceable items of jewellery were stolen during the raid.
Police have released the footage to the public in hopes that someone might recognize the individual or notice suspicious behavior in the neighborhood around the time of the incident. Neighbors are urged to verify their security systems and check doorbell camera logs for any matching descriptions.
Security experts remind homeowners that 'knock-and-run' or door-knocking checks are highly common strategies used by thieves to target empty houses during daylight hours. Residents are advised to secure rear access gates and consider installing motion-activated security lights or internal alarms to deter intruders.
