Appeal following distraction burglary in Coventry targeting elderly resident

West Midlands Police are investigating a distraction burglary in Coventry that targeted a vulnerable resident. According to investigators, the suspect knocked on the front door posing as a utility contractor or official, claiming there was an urgent maintenance issue requiring immediate access to the property.

While the resident was kept distracted by one individual, another suspect quietly entered the property through the unlocked front entrance. The second individual searched the rooms, stealing cash and personal items before both suspects left the area.

Detectives have launched a full appeal for information and are asking anyone who may have seen individuals behaving suspiciously or knocking on doors in the neighborhood to contact them immediately. Police are also reminding residents to never let unexpected callers inside without verifying their credentials.

"Distraction burglaries often target the elderly and vulnerable, using convincing excuses to gain their trust," a police spokesperson said. "We urge neighbors to keep an eye out for one another and report any suspicious door-to-door callers to help protect our community."
