Raiders Abandon Car After Failed Attempt to Snatch Cash Machine in Doncaster
DONCASTER, South Yorkshire — Police are investigating a failed ram-raid at a local store in Doncaster after raiders abandoned their vehicle and fled the scene empty-handed following an unsuccessful attempt to steal an ATM.
The incident took place in the early hours of the morning when a group of individuals using a stolen car crashed into the storefront in an attempt to dislodge the cash machine. The impact caused significant structural damage to the front of the shop, shattering glass and damaging the building's brickwork.
Failed Heist and Abandoned Vehicle
Despite the force of the collision, the security mechanisms securing the cash machine held firm. Realizing they were unable to extract the ATM and that police had been alerted, the suspects abandoned the vehicle inside or immediately adjacent to the storefront and fled in a second getaway vehicle.
South Yorkshire Police arrived shortly after the alarm was raised. Forensic teams have spent the morning examining the abandoned vehicle and the crime scene for DNA and fingerprint evidence. Local road closures were briefly put in place while the damaged vehicle was safely recovered.
A spokesperson for the police stated:
"This was a reckless act that has caused severe damage to a local business. While no money was taken, the disruption and damage are extensive. We are reviewing CCTV footage and tracking the escape route of the second vehicle."
Anyone with information, CCTV, or dashcam footage of the incident is urged to contact South Yorkshire Police immediately.
