Three Arrested and Officer Assaulted Following Dudley Burglary
Violent Break-in and Police Pursuit
Three men are currently in police custody following a violent burglary and subsequent foot chase in Dudley. West Midlands Police were urgently called to an address on Grange Road shortly before 8:00 am on June 2. Initial reports indicated that a group of three individuals had forcibly entered the residential property and violently assaulted an occupant inside.
Suspects Detained and Officer Assaulted
As response officers arrived at the scene, they immediately spotted a group of men attempting to flee the address. A brief foot chase ensued before officers successfully detained the three suspects. During the intense process of making the arrests, one police officer was assaulted. Fortunately, the officer did not sustain any serious injuries and was able to continue their duties. Officers also successfully recovered items that had been stolen from the property during the break-in.
Arrests and Ongoing Investigation
Following the arrests, two men, aged 42 and 43, were taken into custody on suspicion of burglary. A third man, aged 40, was arrested on suspicion of burglary, assault, and assaulting an emergency worker. A spokesperson for West Midlands Police stated: "We never tolerate any form of assault against our officers who work tirelessly to protect the public." Police are urging anyone with further information to contact them via 101 or Live Chat, quoting log 678 of June 2.
Securing Your Home Against Forced Entry
To protect your home against forced entry and potential violence, consider the following security enhancements:
- Ensure all external doors meet the British Standard (BS 3621) and are fitted with at least a five-lever mortice deadlock.
- Install a reinforced strike plate on door frames to make them significantly harder to kick in or force open.
- Consider fitting a robust, professionally monitored burglar alarm system that immediately notifies authorities of a breach.
- If you have a front porch, ensure the outer door is as secure as the inner door to create a 'double-barrier' against intruders.
