Petrol Bomb Arson Attack Devastates Plush Edinburgh Home in Escalating Gang Turf War
A family, including a young child, narrowly escaped a catastrophic fire after gangland thugs targeted a luxury property in the Oxgangs/Greenbank area of Edinburgh. The arson attack is believed to be part of a coordinated series of firebombings linked to a violent organized crime feud sweeping through the capital.
Petrol Bomb Ambush at 2:00 AM
At approximately 2:00 AM on Thursday, April 17, 2025, emergency services rushed to a plush residential property on Pitcairn Grove. CCTV footage retrieved from the neighborhood showed two masked individuals carrying containers of fuel approaching the front of the house. The suspects doused the main door and letterbox in petrol before igniting it, sending a massive wall of fire up the front of the building.
At the time of the attack, the occupants of the homeโincluding a childโwere fast asleep. The family was jolted awake by the smoke and crackling flames. Fortunately, they managed to evacuate through a rear exit, escaping physical injury but suffering extreme emotional trauma. The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service arrived quickly to extinguish the blaze, which caused severe damage to the front entrance and structural hall.
Part of a Coordinated Campaign
Detectives immediately linked the Pitcairn Grove arson to two other firebombings that occurred in the early hours of the same night at Niddrie Marischal Crescent and Prestonfield Crescent. All three properties are associated with individuals connected to imprisoned drug lord Mark Richardson. Underworld sources confirm that these firebombings were retaliation for a stolen shipment of cocaine valued at half a million pounds, originally belonging to a Dubai-based crime lord who ordered the attacks.
Operation Portaledge Crackdown
The shocking nature of the attack, particularly the disregard for the lives of children inside the home, prompted an aggressive response from law enforcement. Police Scotland established a dedicated taskforce under Operation Portaledge to track the perpetrators. In June 2025, an 18-year-old male was arrested and charged with multiple counts of wilful fire-raising and endangerment of life. A second suspect, a 31-year-old man, was arrested and charged in December 2025. The investigation remains active as police seek to identify the masterminds who ordered the coordinated strikes.
