Coordinated Firebombings Target Two Edinburgh Homes Linked to Organized Crime Feud

An escalating gangland turf war has brought terror to the streets of Edinburgh after a series of coordinated firebombings targeted residential properties in the early hours of Thursday, April 17, 2025. Police Scotland have launched a major investigation under Operation Portaledge following the attacks, which are believed to be linked to a violent feud involving incarcerated cocaine kingpin Mark Richardson and rival criminal networks.

Coordinated Midnight Raids

Emergency services were called to properties at Niddrie Marischal Crescent and Prestonfield Crescent in Edinburgh. At both locations, local residents reported seeing masked individuals carrying accelerants before setting the front entryways of the houses ablaze. The fire-raising caused significant damage to the exteriors and entry halls of the homes, though prompt responses from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service prevented the flames from engulfing the structures entirely.

Investigators quickly established that these firebombings were not random acts of vandalism but highly organized, simultaneous strikes. Both targeted addresses are known to be occupied by associates and relatives of Mark Richardson, who is currently serving a lengthy prison sentence for his role in a multi-million-pound drug distribution network.

Underworld Dispute and the Dubai Connection

Underworld sources suggest the wave of arson is direct retaliation in a bitter conflict that erupted earlier in the year. The feud began after associates of Richardson reportedly hijacked a ยฃ500,000 shipment of cocaine belonging to a powerful, Dubai-based drug lord often referred to in crime circles as "Mr Big." In response, the rival faction has placed bounties on Richardson's crew, leading to a series of tit-for-tat attacks across Scotland's Central Belt.

In the aftermath of the April 17 attacks, Police Scotland's Organised Crime Unit intensified their patrols in the affected areas. A spokesperson stated: "We are treating these incidents as linked and wilful. We are appealing to anyone who saw suspicious activity or vehicles, particularly in the Niddrie and Prestonfield areas, to contact us immediately."

Criminal Charges and Prosecution

Following a massive forensic investigation and CCTV analysis under the banner of Operation Portaledge, police arrested multiple individuals. An 18-year-old male was arrested and charged in connection with the fire-raisings, and later in December 2025, a 31-year-old man was also apprehended and charged. Both face serious indictments for wilful fire-raising, endangerment of life, and conspiracy to commit serious organized crime.
