ยฃ1,000 Reward Offered After Children's Bikes Stolen in Ilkley
Devastating Theft of Children's Motorbikes
A devastated local family is offering a ยฃ1,000 reward for information leading to the recovery of their children's motorbikes following a targeted warehouse break-in. The incident occurred at approximately 12:10 am on May 21 at the Floor Decor premises located at 1 Dansk Way on Leeds Road in Ilkley. Offenders forced entry into the commercial building and stole two specific vehicles described as the children's โpride and joyโ: a blue Yamaha motorbike featuring distinct Rockstar decals, and a white and blue Suzuki LT50 quad bike.
Police Pursuit and Fleeing Suspects
A nearby security worker was alerted to the unfolding crime by barking dogs. Upon investigating, she witnessed two males manually pushing the stolen bikes through a nearby lane and car park. In a stroke of luck, a passing police vehicle also noticed the disturbance and officers immediately attempted to intervene. A foot pursuit ensued, with one of the suspects notably described as being shirtless. Despite the officers' rapid response, both suspects managed to evade capture and escape into the night. The victims strongly believe the bikes may have been hidden, abandoned, or temporarily stored locally in the immediate aftermath.
Public Appeal for CCTV Footage
Alongside the ยฃ1,000 reward, the owners are urgently appealing to residents across Ilkley, Burley-in-Wharfedale, Menston, Otley, and surrounding areas to meticulously check their private CCTV, Ring doorbells, and dashcam footage for any suspicious activity from that night. Anyone who has seen the distinct bikes or noticed them being offered for sale online should contact the police immediately.
Securing Commercial Warehouses
Commercial premises storing high-value items overnight are prime targets for organized thieves. Businesses should ensure:
- Perimeter security is robust, utilizing heavy-duty fencing, locked gates, and external motion-sensor lighting.
- Internal valuables are physically anchored to the floor or walls using heavy-duty chains and high-security padlocks.
- A monitored, commercial-grade alarm system is active and linked directly to a security response team or the police.
