Car thief confronted by terrified lone Leeds woman in her own home

LEEDS, West Yorkshire โ€” A lone woman was left terrified after confronting a burglar who broke into her home with the intention of stealing her vehicle keys.

The victim was home alone when she heard unusual noises coming from another part of the house. Upon investigating, she came face-to-face with an intruder who had managed to gain entry to the property. The suspect was actively searching the home, targeting car keys to steal the vehicle parked outside.

The victim described the encounter as extremely distressing, as she found herself cornered by the thief. After a tense confrontation, the intruder fled the premises, leaving the victim unharmed but deeply shaken by the experience. Police believe this to be part of a wider trend of 'Hanoi-style' burglaries in West Yorkshire, where criminals break into homes specifically to locate keys for high-value vehicles parked on driveways.

West Yorkshire Police have launched an investigation into the break-in. They are urging residents to keep their house doors locked at all times, even when at home, and to store car keys in secure locations out of sight and away from doors, windows, or letterboxes.
