Popular Leeds record store targeted in overnight burglary as cash stolen
An independent record store in Headingley, Leeds, has been targeted in a highly calculated overnight burglary, leaving the local business community shocked. The Vinyl Whistle, situated on Otley Road, was broken into during the early hours of Wednesday, May 28, 2025.
According to the store manager, Adam White, the intruder appeared to be highly experienced, executing the break-in with remarkable speed. CCTV footage of the incident shows the burglar gained entry and fled the premises in approximately one minute. The thief focused solely on the shopโs till register, stealing the cash drawer containing the daily float.
Surprisingly, the burglar left behind the store's extensive collection of highly valuable and rare vinyl records. "They knew exactly what they wanted and how to get it quickly," said White. "While we are relieved that our physical stock wasn't damaged or stolen, it is incredibly disheartening for an independent business to be targeted in this way."
Local authorities believe the burglary may be linked to another incident that occurred around the same time. A nearby restaurant is also reported to have been targeted by an individual matching the same description. West Yorkshire Police are currently reviewing the CCTV footage and have launched an appeal for anyone with information to come forward.
