Serial Commercial Burglar Noel Heatley Jailed After Using Paving Slabs to Smash Into Leeds Wetherspoon Pub
A prolific commercial burglar who used paving slabs to smash his way into local businesses has been sentenced to nearly four years in prison. Noel Heatley, 46, was sentenced at Leeds Crown Court following a series of highly destructive break-ins across the Leeds area, which caused thousands of pounds in property damage.
The court heard that Heatley, alongside an accomplice, targeted several commercial premises in a short period. Among the high-profile targets was a local Wetherspoon pub, where Heatley used a heavy paving slab to smash through secure glass doors, allowing him to gain entry to the premises. Once inside, the burglars targeted tills, safes, and stock, disrupting local business operations.
Heatley's destructive methods were not limited to the pub; his broader spree also targeted a Home Bargains store, a Tesco petrol station, and a BP garage. At the Tesco petrol station, the pair forced open the security shutters before using a brick to smash a door panel. The crime wave culminated in a robbery at the BP garage, which left a night-shift employee severely shaken.
Following a rapid investigation by West Yorkshire Police, Heatley was arrested and linked to the crime scenes through forensic evidence and CCTV footage. He pleaded guilty to multiple counts of commercial burglary and robbery, and the judge sentenced him to three years and ten months in prison, noting the severe financial impact of his destructive actions on local businesses.
