Armed Police Deploy to Leicester Burglary Scene Only to Discover Cannabis Factory
Armed Officers Swarm Egerton Avenue
Specialist armed police officers were deployed to a residential street in Leicester following reports of an active burglary in progress. However, the emergency call took an unexpected turn when the responding units entered the property and discovered a substantial cannabis cultivation operation inside.
Active Burglary Call Leads to Drug Discovery
The incident occurred on Egerton Avenue, a residential road characterized by semi-detached housing, shortly after 11:15 BST on Wednesday, July 23, 2025. Members of the public had reported seeing suspicious individuals attempting to break into a house on the street. Due to concerns regarding the potential presence of weapons and to ensure the safety of the public and responding staff, Leicestershire Police dispatched armed response vehicles (ARVs) to the scene.
Suspects Fled the Scene
Upon arriving and clearing the building, officers found that the suspected burglars had already fled the area. While no suspects were located inside the home, officers instead found a series of rooms containing a large number of cannabis plants along with specialized growing equipment. The cultivation was immediately seized by police, and forensics teams were called in to examine the scene for evidence left by both the growers and the attempted intruders.
Ongoing Police Enquiries
A spokesperson for Leicestershire Police confirmed that the armed deployment was a precautionary measure taken in the interest of safety. No arrests have been made at this stage, and investigations are ongoing to trace both the individuals responsible for the attempted break-in and those managing the illegal drug cultivation setup. Anyone with information regarding suspicious activity on Egerton Avenue is urged to contact police.
