Man charged over 'creeper-style' residential burglary in Lisburn
A man has been charged following a "creeper-style" burglary in Lisburn that occurred towards the end of January, the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) has announced.
The term "creeper burglary" typically refers to break-ins that occur while the occupants are inside the home, often asleep, and where intruders enter through unlocked doors or windows to steal car keys, cash, or small electronics. The incident, which took place in a residential area of Lisburn, resulted in the theft of personal belongings and a vehicle.
Following a targeted investigation by local detectives, a suspect was identified, arrested, and subsequently charged with burglary and theft. Police have taken this opportunity to remind homeowners of the importance of basic security measures, even when at home.
A PSNI crime prevention officer advised: "Creeper-style burglaries are highly intrusive and can leave victims feeling very vulnerable in their own homes. We urge everyone to ensure their front and back doors are locked, windows are secured, and car keys are kept out of sight and away from doors and letterboxes. Simple precautions can significantly reduce the risk of becoming a victim of these opportunistic crimes."
The suspect is expected to appear in court in the coming days, with the prosecution service preparing the case file for legal proceedings.
