Bystanders Thwart Attempted Burglary at Lovelocks Coffee Shop in Old Haymarket

On the night of Thursday, October 16, 2025, a burglar shattered the windows of Lovelocks Coffee Shop, an independent café situated on Old Haymarket in Liverpool city centre. The intruder gained entry to the premises and targeted the counter area, attempting to steal the till and an iPad.

However, the attempted heist was quickly cut short. Alert members of the public nearby spotted the break-in and loudly challenged the intruder. Startled by the confrontation, the suspect fled the scene empty-handed, leaving behind the valuable electronics and cash register.

Lovelocks is a well-known local hub, frequented by celebrities such as TV presenter Stacey Dooley, actor Paul Whitehouse, and members of the legendary rock band Slade. In the wake of the break-in, the community rallied around the café's owner. A queer gaming group called 'Board Gaymes', which regularly hosts events at the café, launched a fundraising campaign to cover the cost of replacing the smashed windows and door frame. Merseyside Police have opened an investigation and are seeking witnesses who may have seen the suspect fleeing Old Haymarket.
