Spitalfields Restaurant Galvin La Chapelle Hit by 'Fine-Dining Bandit' in £800 Meat Theft
Following the viral publicity of the Elystan Street langoustine theft, staff at the Michelin-starred Galvin La Chapelle in Spitalfields reviewed their security footage and discovered they had been targeted by the same perpetrator. The suspect, dubbed the 'fine-dining bandit', stole £800 worth of premium meat in an earlier incident.
The theft took place on the morning of Tuesday, November 4, 2025. CCTV footage reveals a woman, matching the description of the suspect in the Chelsea incident, walking up to the restaurant's delivery drop-off point. She systematically stole high-value cuts of beef and lamb, valued at around £800, before walking away undetected.
Co-owner Chris Galvin expressed deep frustration over the incident, noting that early-morning delivery thefts are a persistent headache for high-end dining establishments. 'It is clear this is not a random act of opportunistic theft,' Galvin commented. 'The thief knows exactly what they are looking for and targets high-end ingredients. This is a tough blow for independent businesses during our busiest trading season of the year.'
The Metropolitan Police are looking into the link between the two incidents. Restaurant owners across London have been advised to tighten security around morning deliveries and ensure staff are present to receive shipments directly.
