Two Men Jailed for Terrifying Masked Burglary in Nuthall
Violent Home Invasion Leads to Severe Sentences
Two men have been handed significant prison sentences following a terrifying, violent burglary at a residential property in Nottinghamshire. The incident occurred at a home on Canterbury Close in Nuthall. According to police reports, the pair, armed and concealing their identities with balaclavas and gloves, violently forced their way into the property.
Victim Forced to Flee
The sudden and aggressive nature of the break-in caused such fear that a male resident inside the home felt compelled to leap from an upstairs window to escape the intruders, tragically breaking his leg in the process. Once inside, the masked burglars unsuccessfully attempted to steal a high-value vehicle parked on the driveway. They eventually fled the scene with a mobile phone and £500 in stolen cash.
Justice Served at Nottingham Crown Court
Extensive investigative work utilizing CCTV footage, mobile phone data analysis, and tracking of a stolen getaway car led to the identification and arrest of the perpetrators. John McNee, 46, of Tunstall Crescent, Nottingham, and Craig Morgan, 53, of Lymn Avenue, Gedling, both pleaded guilty to the burglary charges. At Nottingham Crown Court, McNee received a nine-year sentence, which also reflected his guilty pleas to witness intimidation and an unrelated city centre burglary. Morgan received a five-year sentence.
Detective Constable Tony Tonks of Nottinghamshire Police stated: "This was a frightening experience for the victim who was simply going about his daily business when he was confronted in his own home by masked men... Both thought they could simply take what they wanted... but hadn't reckoned on the determination of multiple detectives."
Securing Your Home Against Aggressive Intruders
While home invasions of this severity are less common than opportunistic thefts, ensuring your home is heavily fortified is crucial:
- Install heavy-duty, solid-core exterior doors fitted with five-lever mortice deadlocks and anti-snap cylinders.
- Fit shatter-resistant security film to all ground-floor and easily accessible windows to delay forced entry.
- Utilize a comprehensive smart home security system featuring internal and external cameras, coupled with a panic button feature that immediately alerts emergency services.
