Plymouth Knifeman High on Spice Jailed After Breaking Aldi Security Guard's Tooth

A Plymouth man who threatened an Aldi security guard with a knife and broke his tooth during a drug-fueled shoplifting incident has been sentenced to two years in prison at Plymouth Crown Court.

The incident, which occurred at the Aldi supermarket on Union Street in Plymouth, Devon, involved 30-year-old Aaron Williams. Williams, who was heavily under the influence of the synthetic drug Spice and alcohol, entered the store accompanied by two other individuals. The group targeted the alcohol aisle, attempting to make off with a box of beer without paying. When a security guard intervened to prevent the theft, the situation escalated into violence.

According to prosecutors, Williams resisted the guard's intervention and produced a knife, brandishing it in a threatening manner. During the physical struggle that followed, the security guard was struck in the face, sustaining a broken tooth and other facial injuries. Williams and his associates fled the scene but were located by police shortly afterward in the surrounding area.

Williams pleaded guilty to charges of theft, possession of a bladed article in a public place, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm. In sentencing, the judge noted the severe psychological and physical impact on the victim, who was simply performing his duties. The judge remarked that retail staff must be protected from violent offenders, especially those carrying dangerous weapons under the influence of illicit substances. Williams was handed a two-year custodial sentence, reflecting the severity of the offense.
