Skegness Council Demands Answers from Police After Commercial Break-Ins

Council Questions Police Response to Break-Ins

Tensions between local government and law enforcement have surfaced in Skegness following a spate of commercial burglaries. During a recent full council meeting, Mayor Coun Dan Kirk raised serious concerns regarding break-ins that have heavily impacted businesses operating in the town centre and along Drummond Road. Prior to the meeting, the Mayor submitted formal questions to Lincolnshire Police seeking clarity on their operational response to these crimes.

Police Defend Threat-Based Prioritization

In response to the council's inquiries, Lincolnshire Police explained that incidents are strictly prioritized based on immediate "threat, harm and risk." They revealed that an analysis of the preceding 28 days showed four specific reports of business burglaries in Skegness as of June 3. Police also confirmed that a suspect has been arrested and remains on bail in connection with two of these linked offences, while separate investigations continue into the other, seemingly unconnected, incidents. Despite this, Mayor Kirk stated that the council was "not satisfied with the response" and intends to press for further details regarding the frequency of foot patrols and the effective use of local CCTV networks.

Securing Your Business Premises

Given the recent focus on commercial burglaries in Skegness, local business owners are strongly encouraged to review and upgrade their current security measures:

  • Ensure all external access points, including rear delivery doors and skylights, are fitted with heavy-duty commercial locks and physical barricades.
  • Maintain a well-lit exterior around the premises overnight, utilizing motion-activated floodlights to expose potential intruders.
  • Install a monitored alarm system that immediately alerts a private security firm or local police to an ongoing breach.
  • Minimize cash kept on-site overnight by utilizing a secure drop safe or banking cash daily.
