Man Arrested After Early-Hours Burglary Attempt at St Albans Greggs
ST ALBANS, Hertfordshire โ Hertfordshire Constabulary has arrested a 33-year-old man following an attempted commercial burglary at the Greggs bakery in The Quadrant, St Albans.
The break-in occurred during the early hours of Saturday, January 18, 2025. Suspects smashed through the front glass door of the bakery to gain entry to the premises. Once inside, they made repeated attempts to breach the store's safe but were ultimately unsuccessful, fleeing the scene empty-handed before officers arrived.
Following the break-in, Hertfordshire Constabulary launched a targeted investigation using Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras. On Sunday, January 19, 2025, police spotted and stopped a vehicle linked to the crime in St Albans city centre. The driver, a 33-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of burglary and theft of a motor vehicle. He has since been released on police bail pending further enquiries as detectives work to identify other individuals involved in the incident.
