Stoke-on-Trent Man Jailed Following Serial Motorbike Theft Spree

Serial Offender Sentenced for Widespread Crime Spree

A prolific criminal responsible for a series of thefts and burglaries across Staffordshire has been handed a significant prison sentence. Ian Pawlowski, 44, of Ball Green, appeared at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on Wednesday, May 20, where he was sentenced to three years behind bars. Pawlowski's extensive crime spree occurred between May and September of the previous year, targeting victims in Stoke-on-Trent, Newcastle-under-Lyme, and Biddulph. Despite his initial attempts to plead innocent, the overwhelming evidence compiled by Staffordshire Police ultimately led to his conviction on nine separate counts.

Motorcycles and Vehicles Targeted

Pawlowski specifically targeted motor vehicles, with a strong focus on high-value motorcycles. In one incident, he was caught red-handed attempting to hot-wire a Honda VRF on Peter Cartlidge Grove. He attempted to flee but was arrested after tripping over a curb. His offenses escalated when he forced entry into Powerslide Motorcycles on London Road in Stoke-on-Trent, successfully stealing a Honda CBR600 RR5 and a KTM 530 EXC. Pawlowski was also linked to the theft of a Lexmoto Adrenaline in Newcastle-under-Lyme, a Land Rover Discovery on Bucknall New Road that sustained extensive wheel damage, and a Skoda Octavia stolen from Biddulph. Furthermore, he stole a bank card from a Vauxhall Corsa, subsequently using it fraudulently at a local petrol station.

Protecting Motorbikes from Serial Thieves

Motorcycles are highly vulnerable to opportunistic and organized theft due to their portability. Owners must employ a layered security approach:

  • Always use a heavy-duty disc lock coupled with a thick, alarmed chain attached to a solid, immovable ground anchor when parking at home.
  • Fit a hidden, Thatcham-approved GPS tracking device to significantly increase the chances of the police recovering the bike if it is stolen.
  • Invest in a quality motorcycle cover to hide the make and model of the bike, making it less appealing to passing thieves.
  • When parking in public, choose well-lit areas with prominent CCTV coverage and try to park near other motorcycles.
