Sunderland Vape Shop Suffers £25,000 Looting Loss as Teenager and Rioters Sentenced

A local vape shop in Sunderland suffered losses and damages totaling £25,000 after being targeted by looting groups during violent civil unrest in the city. The incident, which took place during the riots in August 2024, has led to a series of court appearances and sentences for the individuals involved.

Among those prosecuted was a teenager who was caught on camera burgling the vape shop and pelting police officers with missiles during the height of the disorder. The youth was seen throwing objects at law enforcement lines before taking advantage of the broken storefront to enter and steal products from inside.

Newcastle Crown Court heard details of the impact on the business, which had to deal with the immediate financial shock of the damage alongside lost trading days. The prosecution highlighted how the actions of the rioters severely disrupted local business owners who had no involvement in the wider political unrest.

The teenager and other rioters identified in connection with the burglary have since been locked up, with the courts emphasizing the need for firm sentencing to deter future riots and protect community shops. Business organizations have called for continued vigilance and support for independent city centre retailers recovering from the events.
