Sunderland Burglar Returned to Jail After Targeting City Centre Bar in Brazen Raid

A prolific burglar who was caught on security footage helping himself to bottles of alcohol at a Sunderland city centre bar has been sent back to prison.

The break-in, which took place at a popular hospitality venue in the heart of Sunderland, was captured on CCTV. The footage showed the intruder casually browsing behind the counter and selecting several bottles of high-value spirits before leaving the premises undetected.

The initial incident in April prompted a widespread police appeal, with local businesses sharing the footage to warn others in the hospitality sector. Following investigations, police traced the suspect, who was revealed to be a repeat offender with a history of commercial burglaries in the Tyne and Wear area.

In December, court proceedings concluded with the offender being sentenced to a return to custody. Local business groups have welcomed the jail term, noting that commercial burglaries place significant financial and emotional strain on local bars and restaurants recovering from economic challenges.
