Large Police Response Uncovers Cannabis Farm After Dewsbury Road House Fire in Wakefield

A large emergency response was triggered in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, after a fire broke out at a residential property on Dewsbury Road. The fire service was called to the scene at approximately 1:22 PM to tackle the blaze, which had engulfed part of the house. However, upon entering the property to extinguish the flames, firefighters made a startling discovery.

Inside the smoke-filled building, crews uncovered a large-scale cannabis cultivation setup, complete with specialized growing lights, ventilation equipment, and electrical bypass systems. The fire service immediately alerted the West Yorkshire Police, who dispatched officers to secure the site and launch a criminal investigation.

Initial investigations suggest that the fire was likely caused by the unsafe electrical setup used to power the growing operation. The hazardous wiring, designed to bypass electricity meters, overloaded the system and sparked the blaze. Police forensic teams have been gathering evidence from the scene, and inquiries are ongoing to identify those responsible for the cultivation and the dangerous setup that put neighbors at risk.
