Repeat Offender Jailed After Being Caught Driving Stolen £80k BMW X5 Hours After Wakefield Burglary
A repeat offender has been handed a prison sentence after he was caught behind the wheel of a stolen £80,000 BMW X5, just hours after the vehicle was taken during a residential burglary in Wakefield. The high-value SUV was targeted by burglars who broke into a home in West Yorkshire to steal the keys before driving off in the vehicle.
West Yorkshire Police officers spotted the stolen BMW X5 traveling at high speed shortly after the break-in was reported. Following a brief pursuit, officers successfully intercepted the vehicle and arrested the driver, who was identified as a known local criminal with a long history of driving and theft offenses.
At court, the defendant pleaded guilty to handling stolen goods and driving offenses. The judge sentenced him to an immediate custodial term, highlighting the severity of target-driven domestic burglaries and the danger posed to the public by criminals operating high-performance stolen vehicles. The BMW was subsequently recovered and returned to its owner.
