Indefinite Shop Ban and Prison Time for Workington Teen Following Burglary

Strict Sentencing for Workington Teenager

An 18-year-old man from Workington has been handed a significant sentence and strict behavioral controls following a spree of criminal activity. Brannon Utting McBride, of Windsor Road, was sentenced at Carlisle Crown Court on June 4. The Workington Criminal Investigation Department (CID) secured a conviction for burglary, which resulted in a 15-month sentence in a young offender's institute. In addition to the burglary charge, McBride received a further, consecutive 15-month sentence for assault occasioning actual bodily harm against a prison officer, bringing his total sentence to 30 months.

Indefinite Criminal Behaviour Order Details

Alongside the custodial sentence, the Allerdale Neighbourhood Policing Team successfully applied for an indefinite Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) against McBride. The CBO imposes strict, long-term conditions designed to prevent further offending and protect the local community. The terms explicitly ban McBride from:

  • Touching or entering any motor vehicle or push bike that belongs to someone else, unless he is a paying passenger or has the owner's express permission.
  • Wearing a face covering in any public place, except for legitimate medical reasons.
  • Entering specific commercial premises in Workington, including ASDA on Mossbay Road, KFC on Bessemer Way, and Morrisons Daily on Harrington Road.

Police Warning and Community Reassurance

The Allerdale Neighbourhood Policing Team emphasized that McBride’s sentencing and the indefinite CBO will provide "much-needed respite for the community." A spokesperson issued a stern warning to other potential offenders: "Your offending will eventually catch up with you and will have significant consequences. This outcome should serve as a warning to those who think they are immune from being held to account, whether it be due to age or other circumstances." The police pledged to continue pursuing individuals who disrupt the community and ensuring they are held accountable for their actions.
