Homeowner Fires at Burglar in North Abilene as Car Thieves Target Subdivision
ABILENE, Texas โ Residents of north Abilene are on alert after a homeowner confronted a burglar with gunfire, and a nearby subdivision was hit by a coordinated group of car thieves during the same night.
The first incident occurred in a residential area of north Abilene, where a homeowner was awakened by noises indicating someone was attempting to break into the house. Armed and fearing for their safety, the homeowner confronted the suspect and fired at least one shot. The burglar fled the scene immediately and is not believed to have been hit. Police responded to search the area but were unable to locate the intruder.
In a separate but nearby occurrence, police received reports of multiple vehicle break-ins and auto thefts in a local subdivision. Surveillance video from neighbors captured suspects moving from driveway to driveway, checking handles on parked cars and targeting unlocked vehicles. Several items of value, as well as a vehicle, were reported stolen.
The Abilene Police Department is actively investigating both cases and is urging residents to secure their homes, lock their vehicles, and remove all valuables. Police are asking anyone with exterior security cameras to review their footage from the night in question and contact investigators with any potential leads.
