String of Burglaries Hits Four Alamo Heights Businesses
Business owners in the typically quiet community of Alamo Heights, Texas, are on high alert following a sudden and unusual string of commercial burglaries. According to local police, at least four separate businesses have been targeted in recent days by what appears to be two distinct suspects employing different methods of entry.
The Barbershop Burglaries
The crime spree began on June 15 when a suspect broke into Clippers Barber Shop located on Broadway. According to store employees, the burglar gained entry by pushing in a glass pane located at the bottom of the front door. Security footage from the shop captured the suspect—described as a short, skinny male wearing Nike Shox sneakers—moving through the store, seemingly unbothered by the cameras, and even pausing to pour himself a beverage. The thief made off with several pairs of expensive professional hair clippers, including a valuable limited-edition model.
Investigators strongly believe the same individual is responsible for a subsequent break-in at JB’s Barbershop on the nearby Austin Highway. The owner of that establishment reported that their entire inventory of professional hair clippers was stolen during the overnight raid.
Brute-Force Break-Ins
Later in the week, a different suspect struck two adjacent businesses: The DRIPBaR and a neighboring beauty salon. Unlike the barbershop burglar, this individual utilized a more destructive, brute-force approach. Security video shows a suspect dressed entirely in black violently kicking in the large front glass windows of the businesses. Once inside, the suspect bypassed merchandise and headed straight for the point-of-sale systems, successfully rummaging through the cash registers and stealing money directly from the tills.
As of Friday afternoon, the Alamo Heights Police Department confirmed that no arrests have been made in connection with any of the four burglaries. The investigations remain active and ongoing.
Protecting Small Businesses
The Alamo Heights Police Department is urging all local business owners to remain hyper-vigilant. To mitigate the risk of these types of overnight "smash-and-grab" or "push-in" burglaries, retailers should consider the following best practices:
- Empty the Registers: Never leave cash in the tills overnight. Leave cash register drawers wide open and visibly empty to clearly signal to potential burglars that there is no money to be quickly stolen.
- Secure High-Value Tools: In specialty shops like salons and barbershops, professional tools (clippers, shears) are highly targeted items. Employees should be required to lock all high-value tools in secure, heavy-duty cabinets or take them home at the end of their shift.
- Reinforce Glass Entryways: Apply heavy-duty, shatter-resistant security film to all exterior windows and glass doors. This prevents the glass from falling inward even if shattered, significantly delaying or entirely preventing entry.
