ATM Stolen From Colony Bank on Philema Road in Albany
ALBANY, GA — Investigators are on the scene at the Colony Bank branch located on Philema Road in Albany, Georgia, following the brazen theft of an automated teller machine (ATM) over the weekend. The high-profile theft took place early Sunday, September 21, 2025, and has sparked an active multi-agency investigation.
According to the Albany Police Department, the thieves targeted the bank's drive-through ATM. Preliminary evidence suggests the suspects utilized heavy-duty machinery or a large vehicle to rip the heavy vault machine from its concrete foundation. The entire ATM unit, along with the cash contained inside, was loaded onto a getaway vehicle before police could respond to the bank's automated silent alarms.
Detectives have secured the area and are reviewing high-definition security camera footage from Colony Bank and neighboring commercial properties. While the exact amount of cash stolen has not been disclosed, bank officials confirmed that ATMs of this type are typically stocked with substantial amounts of currency prior to the weekend.
“This was not a random crime of opportunity; it was a planned and executed heist,” said an Albany Police investigator. “We are looking for any witnesses who may have seen large trucks, flatbeds, or heavy equipment moving along Philema Road during the early morning hours on Sunday.”
Colony Bank has released a statement cooperating fully with law enforcement and confirming that customer financial data has not been compromised, as no electronic networks were breached. Albany police ask anyone with information to contact local detectives or call Crimestoppers immediately.
