Albuquerque Police Shoot and Kill Armed Robbery Suspect in Northwest Albuquerque
ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico — An armed robbery suspect was shot and killed by Albuquerque police officers following an intense confrontation in Northwest Albuquerque, triggering an active investigation by the Multi-Agency Task Force.
The situation began on Monday when Albuquerque Police Department (APD) officers responded to a distress call reporting an active armed robbery at a business. Upon arriving at the scene, officers located a suspect matching the description provided by dispatch. According to APD officials, the suspect was armed with a handgun and refused repeated commands from officers to drop the weapon. As the confrontation escalated, officers fired their service weapons, striking the suspect.
Officers immediately administered first aid and summoned emergency medical services. However, the suspect succumbed to the gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene. APD has since identified the deceased suspect and notified their next of kin. No officers or store bystanders were injured during the encounter.
Per standard department policy, the officers involved have been placed on administrative leave pending a thorough review. The incident is currently being investigated by the Multi-Agency Task Force, which will review officer body-worn camera footage, storefront surveillance videos, and witness accounts. APD plans to host a formal press conference in the coming days to present additional findings and release relevant camera footage.
