Four Teens Detained After Crashing Stolen Vehicle into Albuquerque Convenience Store
ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico — A group of four teenagers was taken into police custody early Friday morning after crashing a stolen vehicle directly into an Albuquerque convenience store storefront, leaving behind a scene of extensive destruction and renewing community concern over local juvenile crime trends.
According to reports from the Albuquerque Police Department (APD), officers were dispatched to the convenience store following an automated commercial burglar alarm. Upon arrival, officers discovered that a sedan, which had been reported stolen earlier in the week, had been driven completely through the store's glass entrance. The impact shattered the metal framing, destroyed inventory shelves, and caused significant structural damage to the front facade of the building.
Security camera footage from the property captured the dramatic collision and showed the immediate aftermath. Following the crash, four young occupants exited the vehicle and attempted to flee the scene on foot in various directions. APD officers established a tight perimeter in the surrounding neighborhood and successfully located all four juvenile suspects within minutes. They were taken into custody without further incident.
Emergency medical personnel arrived at the scene to evaluate the teenagers, who sustained only minor cuts and bruises during the collision. APD investigators are currently working to determine if this was an attempted ram-style burglary or a joyriding incident. The business owner remains on-site working with construction crews to secure the storefront. Charges for vehicle theft, commercial burglary, and criminal damage to property are pending against the juveniles.
