Security Guard Shot in Leg While Trying to Stop Theft at Albuquerque Liquor Store

ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico — A security guard working at an Albuquerque liquor store was injured after being shot during an attempted shoplifting incident. The shooting took place when the guard attempted to intervene and prevent suspects from stealing merchandise from the store.

According to police reports, a group of individuals entered the retail establishment and began attempting to leave without paying for items. When the on-duty security guard confronted the suspects near the exit, an altercation ensued. During the confrontation, one of the suspects drew a firearm and fired a shot, striking the guard in the leg before the group fled the scene.

Emergency medical services arrived shortly after the incident and transported the injured guard to a local hospital. Fortunately, the injuries were reported as non-life-threatening. The Albuquerque Police Department has launched a search for the suspects and is asking anyone with information or dashcam footage from the area to come forward to assist with the investigation.
