Target Retail Theft and Robbery Investigations Lead to Multiple Arrests in Apple Valley

APPLE VALLEY, MN — Ongoing security concerns at the Bear Valley Road Target department store have led to the arrests of multiple individuals in connection with major retail theft and robbery cases. The Apple Valley Sheriff’s Station, in collaboration with store loss prevention officers, has cracked down on sophisticated shoplifting rings and confrontational thieves targeting the retail outlet.

Sophisticated Shoplifting Scheme Uncovered

In one of the primary cases, a 45-year-old Victorville man was arrested after an investigation revealed a highly coordinated barcode-switching operation. Loss prevention personnel initially caught the suspect attempting to bypass the self-checkout register with approximately $300 worth of baseball cards. The suspect allegedly utilized fraudulent, lower-priced barcodes printed and taped over the original retail barcodes of collectible sports cards.

Following his arrest, deputies obtained and executed a search warrant at his Victorville residence. The search uncovered an extensive stash of stolen merchandise, including approximately $2,100 worth of sports trading cards, packaging materials, and barcode-printing equipment. The suspect faces multiple charges, including grand theft and commercial burglary.

Robbery Investigation Leads to Arrest of Hesperia Man

In a separate incident at the same retail location, Apple Valley deputies responded to a reported strong-arm robbery. A 48-year-old Hesperia resident was observed bypassing checkout registers with shopping baskets filled with merchandise. When confronted by a store employee, the suspect pushed past the employee, escalating the theft to a robbery.

Deputies intercepted the suspect near the store’s exit. During the arrest, deputies conducted a search and recovered brass knuckles, a stash of narcotics, and drug paraphernalia. The suspect was booked into the High Desert Detention Center on charges of robbery, possession of a dangerous weapon, and possession of a controlled substance.

Local authorities emphasize that collaboration with local businesses and proactive policing will continue to target retail crime and ensure the safety of retail environments in Apple Valley.
