Arlington Police Investigate Failed ATM Smash-and-Grab Attempt
ARLINGTON, Texas — The Arlington Police Department has launched an investigation into a failed ATM smash-and-grab attempt that occurred at a local bank branch early Thursday morning, leaving behind extensive property damage but resulting in no stolen cash.
According to preliminary police reports, officers responded to an alarm at the financial institution on May 8, 2025. Upon arrival, investigators discovered heavy structural damage to the bank's exterior and the ATM unit itself. Investigators believe the suspects attempted to use a vehicle or heavy machinery to forcibly extract the automated teller machine from its housing.
Despite the severe damage inflicted on the building's facade and the ATM's outer casing, the vault compartment of the machine remained secure. The perpetrators were unable to access the cash inside and fled the scene before law enforcement arrived.
Detectives are currently reviewing surveillance footage from the bank and neighboring businesses to identify the vehicles and individuals involved in the incident. Crime scene technicians have also processed the scene for physical evidence. No injuries were reported, and the bank is working to repair the damage and restore full services. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Arlington Police Department or Tarrant County Crime Stoppers.
