Hammer-Wielding Teen Trio Sought in Loud Smash-and-Grab Robbery at Pentagon City Mall

ARLINGTON, Virginia — Shoppers at the Pentagon City Mall were startled by loud noises that sounded like gunfire during a smash-and-grab robbery carried out by three hammer-wielding teenagers.

The dramatic incident occurred at a jewelry store inside the shopping center. According to the Arlington County Police Department, three young male suspects entered the store armed with hammers. They began smashing glass display cases to steal high-value merchandise, creating loud crashing sounds that reverberated through the mall and caused panic among retail patrons, some of whom mistook the sounds for active shooter gunshots.

After collecting the stolen items, the trio quickly fled the mall.
