Metro Atlanta Retail Crackdown: Canton Police Catch Gary Dashaun Robinson in Dollar General Burglary

CANTON, GA — Law enforcement agencies in the metro Atlanta region are intensifying their efforts to combat a wave of commercial burglaries. In one of the latest successful operations, Canton police officers caught a suspect red-handed during a late-night break-in at a retail store, subsequently linking him to a broader pattern of commercial crimes in the area.

Caught in the Act

The incident occurred on the night of May 7, 2026, at a Dollar General store located on Hickory Flat Highway in Canton. Officers responded to a silent burglary alarm at approximately 11:10 p.m. Upon arrival, the responding officers observed clear signs of forced entry, including a damaged exterior door. Setting up a perimeter, officers entered the building and discovered the suspect, Gary Dashaun Robinson, still inside the retail floor area attempting to gather merchandise.

Linked to Multiple Offenses

Robinson was arrested at the scene after a brief attempt to obstruct the officers. Following his arrest, detectives from the Canton Police Department worked with neighboring jurisdictions to compare modus operandi. Investigators quickly matched Robinson's methods to another recent business burglary that took place at a gas station convenience store on Mountain Vista Boulevard.

Robinson has been charged with two counts of second-degree burglary, two counts of theft by taking, two counts of second-degree criminal damage to property, and one count of obstruction of law enforcement. Authorities emphasize that quick alarm notifications and rapid response times are crucial in interrupting these commercial break-ins before suspects can flee the scene.
