Dunwoody Police Shoot Suspect Following Luxury Theft and Chase at Perimeter Mall

An officer-involved shooting is currently under investigation by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) following a dramatic series of events at Perimeter Mall in Dunwoody, Georgia. The incident began early on the morning of Thursday, August 21, 2025, when police responded to reports of a commercial burglary in progress.

According to authorities, three suspects targeted the Request Boutique, a high-end retailer located inside Perimeter Mall, utilizing a sledgehammer to smash their way into the store. Once inside, the group stole a significant number of luxury items, including expensive sneakers and high-end handbags. As they attempted to flee the scene, they commandeered an unoccupied mall security vehicle.

Dunwoody Police officers quickly located the stolen security vehicle, initiating a pursuit. The chase culminated in a confrontation near 66 Perimeter Center East. Police report that the suspects drove the stolen security vehicle directly toward officers, creating an immediate threat. In response, three officers discharged their firearms at the oncoming vehicle.

The suspect vehicle eventually crashed, and the three individuals fled on foot. Following an extensive search, one of the suspects, identified as 35-year-old Fredrick Hammonds, was located emerging from a nearby wooded area. Hammonds was suffering from a gunshot wound and was taken into custody before being transported to a local hospital in stable condition. The other two suspects remain at large. The GBI is leading the investigation into the officer-involved shooting, while Dunwoody police continue to search for the remaining suspects.
