Sneak Theft at East Atlanta Yoga Studio: Police Seek Suspects Who Target Purses Mid-Class

A search is underway for a man and a female accomplice accused of entering an East Atlanta yoga and hot pilates studio and stealing wallets from unsuspecting patrons while they practiced. The incident occurred on Saturday, July 6, 2024, at the M3 Yoga & Hot Pilates studio located in the 1500 block of DeKalb Avenue NE.

Stealing Under the Cover of Practice

According to investigators, the male suspect slipped into the lobby area of the studio shortly before 2:30 p.m. Security cameras captured the man systematically rummaging through bags, purses, and personal belongings stored in the cubbies while students were participating in active classes in the adjacent room. Multiple credit cards, cash, and identification cards were taken from the scene.

The layout of the studio, typical of many fitness wellness centers, featured cubbies in the reception lobby for clients to store their belongings during sessions. The suspect took advantage of this setup, operating silently while the yoga music and instructors' voices drowned out any noise from the lobby.

Fleeing the Scene

After collecting the valuables, the suspect exited the building and joined a waiting female accomplice. The pair fled the area in a gray sedan. Police have released security footage of the suspect in the lobby, warning local fitness and wellness studios to secure their front receptions and urging patrons to avoid leaving high-value items unattended during classes.

The owners of M3 Yoga & Hot Pilates have cooperated fully with the Atlanta Police Department, sharing high-definition surveillance footage of the suspect's face in hopes that members of the community can help identify the individual. The incident has prompted discussions within the local fitness community about the need for lockers or locked reception areas to prevent similar thefts.
