Vehicle Crashes Into CVS Pharmacy in North Auburn in Attempted Burglary
AUBURN, California โ A local CVS pharmacy in North Auburn became the scene of a dramatic attempted burglary early Thursday morning when a vehicle crashed directly through the storefront. The Placer County Sheriff's Office is currently investigating the incident, which has left the business with significant structural damage.
According to deputies, the crash occurred at approximately 4:30 a.m. on May 21, 2026, at the CVS location situated just off Highway 49. Authorities report that a stolen Subaru was used in a ram-raid fashion to break through the front entrance of the building. The vehicle did not stop at the doorway; it traveled deep into the store, coming to a halt near the rear pharmacy counter.
The impact shattered the glass entry doors, warped the metal framing, and sent merchandise and store fixtures flying across the aisles. Despite the extensive destruction, the building was unoccupied at the time of the crash, and no injuries were reported.
Security footage retrieved from the pharmacy showed the driver of the stolen Subaru quickly exiting the vehicle and searching the area. However, investigators believe the suspect left empty-handed. The footage showed the driver fleeing the scene shortly after the crash in a second getaway vehicle that had been waiting nearby.
Placer County Sheriff's deputies arrived shortly after the alarm was triggered, but the suspect had already escaped. Investigators are examining the security footage and processing the recovered stolen vehicle for forensic evidence in an effort to identify the suspect and the driver of the getaway car. Local business owners have expressed concern over the brazen nature of the crime, which disrupted operations for the pharmacy and highlighted ongoing security challenges along the Highway 49 commercial corridor.
