Police Search for Burglary Suspect Following Shootout During Southeast Austin Break-In

AUSTIN, Texas — Law enforcement officials are actively searching for an armed suspect after a Southeast Austin home invasion took a violent turn, culminating in an exchange of gunfire between the suspect and a homeowner.

The incident began when the suspect attempted to force entry into a residence in Southeast Austin. The homeowner, who was inside at the time, heard the attempted breach and armed himself. When the suspect managed to enter the home, a confrontation ensued, and shots were fired by both the intruder and the resident. The suspect then fled the scene on foot into the surrounding neighborhood.

Austin Police Department officers, K-9 units, and air support quickly established a perimeter around the area to conduct a thorough search. Despite the extensive search efforts, the suspect managed to evade capture. Fortunately, no injuries were reported from the gunfire, though the homeowner was shaken by the violent encounter.

“This was an extremely volatile situation that could have easily resulted in a tragedy,” an APD official stated. “We are analyzing ballistic evidence and security camera footage from nearby homes to trace the suspect's identity and direction of flight. The suspect is considered armed and dangerous.”

Residents in Southeast Austin have been advised to remain cautious, secure their homes, and report any suspicious individuals or activity to 911 immediately. The police are asking anyone with doorbell cameras or surveillance systems in the area to review their recordings from the time of the incident and share any relevant footage with the APD burglary unit.
