Austin: Repeat Offender Charged in Long-Running Series of Grocery Store Burglaries
Austin police have apprehended a prolific repeat offender accused of carrying out a relentless, years-long burglary campaign against a local grocery chain. Tyroan Jakeil Telemacque, 30, has been charged with a state jail felony following a brazen break-in at the Royal Blue Grocery located at 241 W. 3rd St. in downtown Austin.
Shattered Glass and Stolen Merchandise
According to an arrest affidavit, the incident occurred on May 18 at approximately 2:47 a.m. Telemacque allegedly used a heavy rock to shatter the store's glass front door. Once inside, he quickly filled a bag with cigarettes and various other tobacco products. Authorities noted that multiple boxes of vape pens were haphazardly pulled from shelves and scattered across the counter during the chaotic robbery.
A Shocking Criminal History
This latest break-in is far from an isolated incident. The suspect's criminal record reveals a staggering 21 prior burglary charges (seven resulting in convictions) and 14 criminal trespass charges. Shockingly, police state that Telemacque has been actively targeting various Royal Blue Grocery locations since 2018.
In addition to the May 18 incident, investigators strongly suspect Telemacque is responsible for a similar burglary that occurred just one night prior at the chain's East 6th Street location. Employees were able to positively identify him from surveillance footage of both crimes. Given his extensive history of targeting the business, the investigating detective has requested a high bond to keep the suspect off the streets.
