Bakersfield Police Search for GMC Sierra Suspect in Taft Highway Fuel Pump Theft
BAKERSFIELD, California โ The Bakersfield Police Department is asking for public assistance to identify a suspect who allegedly stole a fuel pump panel from a service station along Taft Highway.
Fuel Pump Theft Details
The theft occurred at a commercial gas station located on Taft Highway (State Route 119) in the southern portion of Bakersfield. Surveillance footage shows a suspect driving a GMC Sierra pickup truck pulling up to one of the fuel dispensers. The suspect then tampered with the dispenser unit, dismantled the fuel pump's electronic control panel, placed it into the truck bed, and drove away from the scene.
Impact of Commercial Fuel Pump Theft
Fuel pump panels contain specialized electronics and components that are expensive to replace and repair. Such thefts not only result in direct property loss for local business operators but also disrupt operations and create potential safety hazards at the pumps. Detectives believe the suspect may have technical knowledge of commercial fuel dispensers to execute the theft so quickly.
Suspect and Vehicle Description
The suspect is described as a male individual, and the vehicle involved is a late-model GMC Sierra pickup truck, possibly dark-colored, with custom wheels or distinct tail lights. BPD has released images of the truck to help the public identify the vehicle.
Call for Public Assistance
Anyone who recognizes the vehicle description or has information about the theft is urged to contact the Bakersfield Police Department at (661) 327-7111. Tips can also be submitted anonymously to Secret Witness.
