Surveillance Video Captures Intruder Using Shovel in Attempted Boston Restaurant Safe Heist

BOSTON, MA — Security surveillance footage has emerged showing a highly unusual and determined attempted burglary at a popular Boston restaurant, where an intruder spent significant effort trying to pry open an office safe using a shovel.

The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Monday, March 3, 2025, has left restaurant staff and local authorities searching for clues. According to store managers, the suspect managed to gain access to the establishment's back offices through a rear entry. Once inside, the individual located the heavy-duty floor safe. Instead of utilizing specialized safecracking tools, the suspect retrieved a common snow shovel found on the premises and attempted to leverage the tool to break the safe's locking mechanism.

Footage shows the masked individual repeatedly jamming the metal edge of the shovel into the seams of the safe door and jumping on the handle to apply maximum pressure. Despite multiple attempts that resulted in the shovel bending and sustaining severe damage, the safe's security bolts held firm, preventing the suspect from accessing any cash or valuables stored inside.

Frustrated by the failed endeavor, the suspect eventually abandoned the tool and fled the scene empty-handed before law enforcement officers arrived. Boston Police detectives are currently analyzing the surveillance video and processing the abandoned shovel for potential DNA or fingerprint evidence.
