Boston Police Seek Public's Help to Identify Prudential Center Shoplifting Suspect

BOSTON, MA โ€” Detectives assigned to the Boston Police Departmentโ€™s District D-4 (South End/Back Bay) are requesting assistance from the public in identifying a suspect involved in a bold retail theft at the Prudential Center shopping complex.

According to department officials, the incident occurred on the afternoon of Wednesday, March 11, 2026. Police responded to a report of larceny from one of the premium retail establishments situated within the mall at 800 Boylston Street. Security personnel reported that a male suspect browsed the store, selected high-value apparel, and strategically concealed the items under his clothing before bypassing all points of sale and exiting the premises.

Surveillance footage captured the suspect fleeing the mall toward the corridor leading to the Back Bay transit station. The suspect is described as a medium-build male, approximately six feet tall, wearing a dark hooded jacket, dark denim pants, and athletic sneakers. Investigators have released security images to local media outlets and community groups in an effort to expedite the identification process.

This theft comes amid heightened vigilance by the Boston Police Department, which has been conducting targeted anti-shoplifting operations in the Back Bay commercial corridors, including the Prudential Center and nearby Copley Place. Merchants and police have been working in tandem to combat organized retail theft rings that have increasingly targeted high-end retail districts in the city. Officers have encouraged store staff to maintain active communication and report suspicious activity immediately.

Anyone with information regarding this incident or the identity of the suspect is strongly urged to contact the District D-4 Detective Bureau at (617) 343-4683. For those who wish to provide information anonymously, tips can be submitted by calling the CrimeStoppers Tip Line at 1-800-494-TIPS (8477) or by texting the word 'TIP' to CRIME (27463). The Boston Police Department assures that all anonymous tips will be kept strictly confidential.
