Pawn Shop Owner Pleads Guilty in Multi-Million Dollar Burglary Ring Targeting Joe Burrow and High-Profile Athletes

BROOKLYN, New York — A major black-market pipeline that fenced luxury items stolen from professional athletes across the country has been dismantled following a guilty plea in a federal court.

The Fencing Operation

Dimitriy Nezhinskiy, a 43-year-old resident of New Jersey and the owner of a Manhattan pawn shop, pleaded guilty in Brooklyn federal court to conspiracy to receive stolen property. According to federal prosecutors, Nezhinskiy operated a sophisticated operation that purchased and resold luxury watches, high-end jewelry, and designer handbags. These items were stolen by organized South American theft groups that specifically targeted the homes of wealthy individuals, including professional athletes, while they were away from their residences.

The Heist at NFL Star Joe Burrow's Home

Among the high-profile victims of the burglary ring was Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow. In December 2024, while Burrow was playing in a Monday Night Football game, thieves ransacked his residence in Anderson Township, Ohio. The burglars escaped with approximately $300,000 worth of jewelry, watches, and personal luxury goods. Nezhinskiy admitted to purchasing these stolen assets knowing they were obtained illegally. The burglary and its aftermath were featured in the Netflix docuseries Quarterback, where Burrow expressed the deep sense of violation and discomfort the incident caused. Nezhinskiy now faces up to five years in federal prison and significant financial forfeiture orders.
